Description :
Dimebon is a drug that has been investigated for its ability to inhibit the replication of viruses. It is an orally administered, water-soluble prodrug that is metabolized to a linker and then converted in vivo to 5-chloromethyl-2-methylpyridine. The efficacy profile of dimebon has been assessed in various animal models and found to be effective against several viruses including hepatitis C virus (HCV). Dimebon also blocks the activity of the enzyme, interferon, which is required for viral replication.
