It is chemically related to other pyridines and is structurally similar to drugs such as meperidine, methadone, and morphine. 4-Chloromethyl-1-methyl-piperidine binds to the 5HT receptor, a G protein coupled receptor that is widely distributed in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. The binding of this drug to the 5HT receptor leads to a decrease in neuronal activity, which results in pain relief.
