1,7-Diacetoxyheptane is a viscous liquid with a particle size of about 1.2 microns that is used as a lubricant and coolant. It has been found to have functional groups such as ester, ether, and ketone. 1,7-Diacetoxyheptane has been used in experimental studies to determine the optimum conditions for its use in groundnut oil extraction. This chemical is also known to be an effective mosquito repellent when applied topically and at low concentrations. 1,7-Diacetoxyheptane is pyrolyzed before it can be used as a lubricant or coolant. It is also an important precursor to other compounds that are catalytic and are useful in the production of other chemicals.
