It has been shown to alter energy metabolism and locomotor activity in rats. 4-(8-Methyl-9H-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-h][2,3]benzodiazepin-5-yl)benzenamine binds to the cation channel and induces neuronal death by causing an increase in oxidative stress and inhibition of atp synthesis. Chronic exposure to this compound leads to rotarod impairments and decreased atp levels in rat brain cells. This drug also has pharmacokinetic properties as a substrate for the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA).
