• Description: EBV BZLF1 (40-48) (HLA-E) is an immunodominant CEF control peptide that is derived from the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). EBV targets B cells, which can cause lytic infection and the consequent death of these cells. Natural killer (NK) cells, invariant (iNKT) cells, CD4T cells and CD8 T cells are essential to control the action of EBV-infected cells. EBV BZLF1 (40-48) (HLA-E) is defined as a CEF control peptide due to its antigenic properties. Clinically, these peptides are suitable epitopes for CD8+ T cells and can be used to stimulate the release of IFNg. HLA-E refers to the cell HLA type that this peptide acts on.The BZLF1 protein mediates the transition from the latent stage to the lytic stage of the virus's infection. The lytic stage of the γ herpesvirus has been found to be associated with human carcinogenesis and BZLF1's ability to activate p53 may allow it to induce DNA damage. Structurally it is similar to the leucine zipper family of transcriptional factors.
