ADX 71149 is a drug that is being developed by Addex Therapeutics as a treatment for depression. It has been shown to be effective in preclinical animal models of depression, where sub-effective doses have been used. ADX 71149 binds to the serotonin transporter and inhibits serotonin reuptake. In vitro assays indicate that this drug may also bind to NMDA receptors and act as an antagonist. Clinical studies in humans are currently underway to assess the safety and efficacy of ADX 71149 for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
