Description :Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) is a cytokine that belongs to the family of growth factors. IGF1 is a peptide hormone that mediates its effects by binding to cell surface receptors and activating signal transduction pathways inside cells. IGF1 stimulates glucose uptake, protein synthesis, and lipolysis in muscle and adipose tissue. The A67T variant of IGF1 has been shown to have increased activity in stimulating insulin-like signaling pathways and mediating the effects of IGF1 on glucose metabolism. This variant is associated with increased risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM).
