1,3-Diamino-2-hydroxypropane-N,N,N²,N²-tetraacetic acid is a metal chelator that is used in wastewater treatment. It binds to metal ions such as copper and nickel to form stable complexes. This drug also has clinical relevance in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as myocardial infarct and clinical relevance to hematologic response. The reaction mechanism of 1,3-Diamino-2-hydroxypropane-N,N,N²,N²-tetraacetic acid is similar to that of cyclic lipopeptides. This drug may be used for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections due to its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding with metal ions.
