1-Methyl-4-phenylethynyl-benzene is a macrocyclic compound that can be used as an acceptor in organic synthesis. It has a 1,3,5,7-tetrahydroindenylidene structure and is a ligand for transition metal ions. This compound is stable in the presence of acetonitrile and does not decompose when exposed to hydrogen peroxide or very strong acids. The compound has been shown to undergo nucleophilic attack on the hydroxy group at the C1 position with coordination complexes of anions such as chloride and bromide.
