It can be used to neutralize acidic solutions in water phase reactions and organic solvents. 2,2'-Thiodi(4-tert-octylphenol) is also a water pollutant which can be removed by extracting it with an organic solvent. The extracted 2,2'-thiodi(4-tert-octylphenol) can then be treated with an inorganic base to remove the contaminating salts. This produces an environmentally friendly product that can be reused as a stabilizer for inorganic bases.
