4-Hydroxyisophthalaldehyde (4HIPA) is an organometallic compound that has been synthesized and characterized. It has been shown to undergo intramolecular hydrogen bonding, which results in a frequency shift. The optical properties of 4HIPA have been investigated using a confocal microscope and solid phase microextraction. This compound has a carbonyl group, which is responsible for the fluorescence probe characteristic. 4HIPA is also able to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules such as usnic acid and proton, which can be used to detect this compound in biological samples.
