Pentanediamide is a synthetic amide that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in human serum. This compound binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential, inhibiting its function and resulting in the depletion of ATP. Pentanediamide has also been shown to directly inhibit integrin-mediated signaling pathways, leading to cell death by apoptosis. The drug can be used for the treatment of bacterial infections, such as those caused by hl-60 cells and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Pentanediamide has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) by binding to gamma-aminobutyric acid transporters.
