4-Methoxyphenylhydrazine is a specific agonist that acts on the estrogen receptor. It has been shown to inhibit endothelial cell proliferation in vitro and can be used to treat disorders such as hormone-dependent cancers, benign breast disease, and endometriosis. 4-Methoxyphenylhydrazine reacts with hydrochloric acid in vitro to form a diazonium salt, which protonates to form a ring. This reaction mechanism is similar to that of a pyrazole ring. The pharmacokinetic properties of 4-methoxyphenylhydrazine are dependent on its route of administration. When administered orally, it has an absorption half life of 10 hours and a volume of distribution of 0.5 L/kg. When administered intravenously, it has an absorption half life of 5 hours and a volume of distribution of 0.3 L/kg.
