- 5-(Dimethylamino)-2-Furaldehyde
5-(Dimethylamino)-2-furaldehyde (5DMAF) is a raw material for the synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate. It is also used in the production of diacetate monomers, polyesters, and other organic compounds. 5DMAF can be synthesized from acetaldehyde by reaction with dimethylamine to form an intermediate aminopropyl alcohol. The reaction between the intermediate and triacontanoic acid yields a linear polyester that can be polymerized into a polymer such as polyethylene terephthalate. This product is also used in fibre products such as polyester, triacetate, or polyamide fibres.
