Description :
2-Isopropenylnaphthalene is a monomer that can be polymerized to produce a variety of polymers, including polyacrylonitrile. It is an organic compound that has a cationic polymerization and solubility parameters similar to those of butyllithium and hydrogen chloride. The reaction mechanism for the polymerization of 2-isopropenyl naphthalene involves the formation of a cationic species followed by nucleophilic attack on the electrophilic double bond, yielding a new carbon-carbon bond. Copolymerization reactions with acrylonitrile or other monomers yield materials with different properties.
