3-(Pyrrolidin-3-yl)-1H-indole is a serotonin receptor agonist that binds to the serotonin receptors 5-ht1a, 5-ht1b, and 5-ht1d. It has shown efficacy in treating hemicrania, paroxysmal headaches, and depression. 3-(Pyrrolidin-3-yl)-1H-indole has also been shown to have vasodilator properties. The carboxamido moiety of this compound is hydrolyzed by esterases or glucuronidases to release the active form of the drug. This active form can be oxidized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduced by glutathione reductase, or conjugated with glucuronic acid.
