Norethisterone enanthate is a progestin that is used in combination with an estrogen to prevent ovulation and pregnancy. Norethisterone enanthate has been shown to be effective at reducing the incidence of endometrial cancer and myocardial infarcts in women who are postmenopausal or have had a hysterectomy. It also reduces the frequency and severity of menstrual bleeding, including uterine cramps, pain, and bloating. Norethisterone enanthate is administered as an intramuscular injection once every two weeks. The drug should not be used by women who have bowel disease or other conditions that may predispose them to thrombosis.
