1,2,3,4,6-Penta-o-acetyl-D-glucopyranose is a detergent composition that contains a cationic surfactant and a hydroxyl group. It is used in the production of detergents that dissolve proteinaceous materials such as blood and proteins. The hydroxyl group reacts with the sodium carbonate to form an alcohol residue and glycol ether. The alcohol residue can be removed by gel chromatography using silica gel as the stationary phase. This chemical stability allows 1,2,3,4,6-Penta-o-acetyl-D-glucopyranose to be used in detergents without compromising their performance.
