Description :
7-Hydroxyisobenzofuran-1(3H)-one is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C10H8O. This substance has been identified as an analog of salicylaldehyde, and has shown antitumour activity in mice. 7-Hydoxyisobenzofuran-1(3H)-one also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA and RNA, which prevents transcription and replication. 7-Hydoxyisobenzofuran-1(3H)-one is synthesized from quillaja saponaria extract, which is a natural product obtained from a Chilean soap bark tree. The fungus that produces this substance is an endophytic fungus found in the roots of Quillaja saponaria trees.
