This binding prevents HIV from entering cells and infecting them. 1-Methanesulfonylpiperidine has been shown to inhibit inflammation in animals by inhibiting chemokine production, as well as having an anti-cancer effect in vitro. The drug may also be used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, as well as inflammatory diseases such as hepatitis C.
