Description

Decanoyl-L-carnitine is a fatty acid that is produced by the body during the breakdown of long-chain fatty acids. It is used as a diagnostic agent for metabolic disorders, such as cancer and acyltransferases. Decanoyl-L-carnitine has been shown to be effective in the treatment of infectious diseases such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, where it was shown to inhibit growth factor production. Decanoyl-L-carnitine also inhibits fatty acid synthesis and supports aerobic glycolysis by acting on mitochondrial carnitine acetyltransferase. This leads to increased cellular energy production and improved metabolism.
