Description :N-Formylcytisine is an alkaloid that belongs to the group of quinolizidine alkaloids and has been isolated from the rhizomes of plants belonging to the genus Cytisus. N-Formylcytisine is a white crystalline powder with a chemical profile consisting of n-oxide, filtrate and population eluting at 1:1. It has a melting point of 197°C and an optical rotation of [α]D=+13.5° (c=0.2 in methanol). N-Formylcytisine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis through its inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes.
