3-Cyano-2-oxo-propionic acid ethyl ester (3COE) is a pyrazole derivative that has been shown to be an effective treatment for inflammation. 3COE has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of soluble guanylate cyclase, which leads to the inhibition of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNFα synthesis. 3COE also inhibits cyclase activity, which leads to decreased levels of cGMP. In primates, 3COE has been shown to have antinociceptive and antiinflammatory effects. These effects are due in part to its ability to inhibit the production of proinflammatory mediators such as COX-2 and PGE2, as well as its ability to inhibit nitric oxide production.
