Informations sur le produit
1-Chloroheptan-2-ol is a hydroxyalkyl, aliphatic, and a cerebral. It has a structure of C7H15ClO with a molecular weight of 137.1 g/mol. This compound is an intermediate in the synthesis of medicines such as 1,4-dichlorobenzene and 2-chlorobenzaldehyde. The synthesis of chloroheptan-2-ol can be achieved by reacting propylene oxide with phosphorus pentachloride to form chloroacetone which reacts with hydrogen chloride to form chloroheptan-2-ol. The yield for this reaction is about 48%.
The transformation from propylene oxide to chloroheptan-2-ol is an example of an oxidation reaction that happens via the transition state theory. This reaction occurs kinetically due to the presence of the hydroxy groups on the molecule which are easily oxidized by oxygen atoms.
