• Description: 5-Phenoxy-1H-indole is a hydroxyalkyl, pyrrolidinyl, thiadiazolyl, benzoxazolyl, furyl, cutaneous, benzimidazolyl, alkoxycarbonyl, haloalkyl, pyridyl, pyrazinyl and reaction product of isoquinolyl. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. 5-Phenoxy-1H-indole inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis. The inhibition of cell wall synthesis leads to bacterial death.
