Methyl 2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinazoline-4-carboxylate is a quinazoline compound that binds to the human estrogen receptor and has been shown effective against resistant cultivars of bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates. It is also active against other human pathogens, such as Aerogenes and the clinical isolate Streptococcus pyogenes. Methyl 2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinazoline-4-carboxylate has been shown to inhibit growth factor production by activated human fibroblasts in vitro. This drug also inhibits telomerase activity in cancer cells and slows down cell proliferation in a dose dependent manner.
