Description

5-Nitro-6,7-dichloro-1,4-dihydro-2,3-quinoxalinedione is a drug that has been shown to have neuroprotective properties. It has been shown to protect brain cells from excitotoxicity by inhibiting the release of glutamate and serotonin. This drug has also been shown to have an effective dose in clinical studies on humans with Parkinson's disease. 5-Nitro-6,7-dichloro-1,4-dihydro-2,3-quinoxalinedione is not an analog of any other drugs currently on the market. It is not yet known how this drug works but it may be due to its ability to inhibit cation channels or fatty acid reuptake inhibitors.
