Description

Azepino[2,1-b]quinazolin-12-one is a synthetic compound that inhibits the production of collagen and has antihistaminic activity. The effects of this compound on extracellular matrix proteins, such as collagen, are due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. Azepino[2,1-b]quinazolin-12-one also blocks the action of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin 1 (IL1), which are inflammatory cytokines that contribute to cancer and heart disease. This compound can be used as an antiviral agent against influenza virus and avian influenza because it blocks the virus from infecting cells by inhibiting viral protein synthesis. Azepino[2,1-b]quinazolin-12-one is also a growth factor that affects immune functions.
