Description :
2,5-Dihydroxybenzonitrile (2,5-DBN) is an organic compound that contains a nitro group. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis to introduce the nitro group into other organic compounds. It has been shown to bind to metal ions and chelate them. 2,5-DBN can be oxidized by light and then react with chloride to form 2,5-dichlorobenzonitrile. This reaction can be catalyzed by copper metal ions in human serum.
2,5-DBN also reacts with birefringent substances such as cellulose and chitin to produce a change in the degree of birefringence.
