2-Methyl-3-[4-(propan-2-yl)phenyl]propan-1-ol is a metabolite of the drug erythromycin. It has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in culture plates, which are multidimensional and postulated to be due to inhibition of DNA synthesis at the level of RNA polymerase. This metabolite may also inhibit the production of carbonyl radicals, which are implicated in cancer development. In vivo studies are needed to validate this mechanism and assess the relevance for humans. 2-Methyl-3-[4-(propan-2-yl)phenyl]propan-1-ol is found in hexane as well as isopropyl alcohol, but not in other solvents such as ethanol.
