It has been shown to inhibit the growth of some bacteria, such as Salmonella typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, by inhibiting their metabolism. 3-(2-Naphthyl)prop-2-ynoic acid is also used to synthesize methyl esters of carboxylic acids and yields azide, methyl ester, potassium, and dimethyl chemoselectivity reagents.
