Deoxyelephantopin is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells. Deoxyelephantopin induces apoptosis by inhibiting the mitochondrial membrane potential and cellular physiology, which leads to the death of cancer cells. This compound also inhibits the growth of pathogenic mechanisms in cancer cells by disrupting protein synthesis. Deoxyelephantopin has also been shown to be effective against Hl-60 cells and may be a potential anticancer agent.
