Description

Octahydro-1H-cyclopenta[C]pyridine is a thrombin receptor antagonist that inhibits platelet activation. It has been used clinically for the treatment of patients with acute coronary syndromes and in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. Octahydro-1H-cyclopenta[C]pyridine inhibits platelet aggregation by binding to the thrombin receptor, which blocks the binding of thrombin to its receptor on the platelet surface. Octahydro-1H-cyclopenta[C]pyridine is selective for this receptor over other receptors such as PAR4, PAR3, and PAR2. The inhibition of platelet activation by octahydro-1H-cyclopenta[C]pyridine may be due to its ability to inhibit alkylsulfonyl (aliphatic sulfonates) and hydroxy groups (alcohols).
