Description

Benzyl 2-tert-butoxycarbonylaminoacetate (BnBOCA) is a chemical compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of peptides. It has been shown to be a good peptide building block due to its conformational stability, which allows for facile peptide synthesis with low levels of side reactions. BnBOCA can be saponified with hydrochloric acid in order to form benzyl alcohol, which is soluble in many solvents. The nitrogen atoms on this molecule are orthogonal and it has been shown that the conformational shifts of these atoms have little effect on its densities. There are two dihedral angles, one at -30 degrees and another at +30 degrees, which are both high and indicate that the molecule is relatively planar.
