Description :
4-Amino-2-chloro-6-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile is a disulfide compound that is synthesized by the reaction of cyanamide and carbon disulfide. The product is then methylated with dimethyl sulfate, yielding malononitrile as an intermediate. The condensation of malononitrile with ammonia and hydrochloric acid yields 4-amino-2-chloro-6-(methylthio)pyrimidine 5,N' -diacetal.
4-Amino-2-chloro pyrimidine 5,N'-diacetal can be used in the synthesis of other compounds such as thiourea derivatives.
