Description :2-Bromoethanesulfonyl chloride is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that has been shown to be activated by conjugation with amines. This agent is a potent drug, which inhibits bacterial growth and has been shown to be effective against some strains of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics such as sulfonamides. 2-Bromoethanesulfonyl chloride binds to the enzyme ribosomal protein S12 and blocks protein synthesis in bacteria cells by preventing the formation of peptide bonds between amino acids. It also inhibits production of purine nucleotides and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in bacterial cells. 2-Bromoethanesulfonyl chloride may also inhibit cell division by binding to DNA gyrase, resulting in the accumulation of single-stranded DNA which causes DNA degradation.
