Sanshodiol is a natural product that is found in the seeds of the plant, Sesamum indicum. Sanshodiol has been shown to have anti-cancer properties, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptotic cell death. Sanshodiol has also been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of cinnamic acid derivatives, including secoisolariciresinol. This chemical compound has been found in various food products, including milk and eggs. Sanshodiol has also been shown to have stereoselective properties. It binds preferentially to proteins with an asparagine residue at position 127, which is a common amino acid sequence in many proteins involved in apoptosis or cancer progression. Sanshodiol binds through hydrogen bonding interactions and hydrophobic interactions with this protein target.
