Description

Glycyl-DL-aspartic Acid is a carboxy terminal amino acid that can be found in mammalian cells. It has been shown to bind to the integrin receptor, which is a protein on the surface of cells that binds to extracellular matrix proteins. This binding may be associated with antimicrobial peptide activity. Glycyl-DL-aspartic Acid also binds to response elements and has been shown to have immune functions. It is classified as a cardiac protein, as it can be found in the heart muscle, and it is involved in maintaining blood pressure. Kinetic data for glycyl-DL-aspartic acid suggest that this amino acid has an inhibitory effect on kinase domain enzymes and may have an effect on malonic acid levels in blood plasma. The chemical composition of this amino acid was determined using nmr spectra and detergent compositions.
