2-(4-Chlorosulfonylphenyl)ethyltrichlorosilane is a chemical reagent that is used to derivatize the surface of magnetic nanoparticles with methyl methacrylate. The reaction occurs at room temperature and produces reproducible results with magnetic particles. The product can be detected by microscopy, which has been shown to be accurate even after storage for more than one year. 2-(4-Chlorosulfonylphenyl)ethyltrichlorosilane is soluble in water and does not form micelles. This compound has been shown to have a high degree of transfer for methyl methacrylate and a low degree of immobilization on the surface of iron oxide nanoparticles.
