CP-53631 has been shown to inhibit serotonin reuptake in rats, which may lead to increased serotonin levels in humans. This drug also inhibits gastric acid secretion and has been shown to be more effective than esomeprazole for treating acid reflux disease. Monitoring serum concentrations of CP-53631 is recommended due to the potential for interactions with drugs such as proton pump inhibitors, clopidogrel, warfarin, and phenytoin.
