It binds to the cytosolic proteins and modulates their activity by changing their spatial location. 2-Methoxy-4-[(5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobenzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-yl)-hydrazonomethyl]-phenol has been shown to inhibit the growth of mammalian cells in culture. The inhibition is due to the inhibition of cytosolic protein synthesis and an increase in cytosolic calcium levels.
