• Description: N-Acetyl-L-leucine is a natural amino acid that has been shown to have therapeutic potential in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. N-acetyl-L-leucine binds to DNA duplexes and inhibits the formation of protein aggregates, which are associated with neurodegenerative disorders. N-acetyl-L-leucine also has a high affinity for neuronal receptors, which may be due to its basic nature. In addition, this compound is able to inhibit oxidative stress induced by glutamate and nitric oxide, as well as mitochondrial membrane potential loss. It also protects against neuronal death induced by amide or cytosolic Ca2+.
