Description

H-D-Ala-Gly-Gly-OH is a bifunctional amide that can be used as an acceptor or donor. It has been shown to function in polymerase chain reactions, where it binds to the subunits of DNA polymerase and acts as an acceptor. This compound also has carboxypeptidase activity and isomerizes to form D-alanine at a thermodynamic equilibrium. H-D-Ala-Gly-Gly-OH is found in Geobacillus stearothermophilus, which displays cell lysis after being exposed to this compound. The same enzyme activity was found in Ochrobactrum anthropi, but not in other bacteria such as Streptomyces griseus or Bacillus subtilis.
