3-(Aminosulfonyl)-5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid is a β-lactamase inhibitor that has the ability to inhibit the activity of β-lactamases, which are enzymes that hydrolyze penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics. 3-(Aminosulfonyl)-5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to inhibit the activity of β-lactamase in both S. aureus and E. coli strains. It is also effective in reducing the level of antibiotic resistance by preventing bacteria from producing new resistant strains. 3-(Aminosulfonyl)-5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid is most effective when used with penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, such as methicillin, ampicillin, oxacillin, and ceftriaxone.
