2-Amino-5-nitrothiazole (2-ANTR) is an antimicrobial agent that can be used to treat infectious diseases. It is a nitroimidazole derivative and it has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the amine group in their proteins, thereby blocking the conversion of n-dimethyl formamide into hydrogen bond. The antibacterial activity of 2-ANTR is comparable with that of other nitroimidazoles such as nitrofurantoin, but it does not have the same carcinogenic potential as these drugs. 2-ANTR is used for specific treatment in pharmaceutical preparations and has shown ovarian activity in rats. It also has been shown to inhibit tumor cell growth in mice and rats, without any significant toxicity.
