2-Amino-5-chloropyrazine is a hydrophobic, trifluoromethoxy compound that was synthesized for its antimycobacterial activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium phlei and Mycobacterium tuberculosis in vitro. 2-Amino-5-chloropyrazine is soluble in polylactide, which is a biodegradable polymer that can be used as an alternative to polyvinyl chloride (PVC). 2-Amino-5-chloropyrazine is also soluble in deionized water and degrades under conditions of chlorination. This compound does not contain chlorine atoms and does not react with dibutyl or chlorine gas.
