6-Acetyl-7-hydroxy-4-methyl-2H-chromen-2-one is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to have anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties. It has been found to be effective against cervical cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and RNA. 6-Acetyl-7-hydroxy-4-methyl-2H-chromen-2 one also inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. This drug also has an antitumor effect on pancreatic cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of insulin.
