2-Amino-5,6-dimethylpyrimidin-4(3H)-one (2DMP) is a metabolite of the drug metronidazole that can be found in urine samples. The analytical method used to measure 2DMP is a bioanalytical method known as mass spectrometry detection. The reaction monitoring used for this method is based on the detection of dialkyl phosphates. The main limitation of this analytical method is that it cannot distinguish between 2DMP and other metabolites of metronidazole. The levels of 2DMP are also influenced by environmental factors such as temperature and exposure to benzyl groups.
