• Description: 2-Acetamido-3-acetylsulfanylpropanoic acid is a pharmaceutical preparation that has been shown to have antitumor activity in cell lines derived from human breast, colon, lung, and prostate cancer. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumour cells by inducing apoptosis. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to bind with fatty alcohols and hydroxyapatite in the acidic environment of cancer cells. This binding prevents the formation of fatty acid radicals and cancerous substances. 2-Acetamido-3-acetylsulfanylpropanoic acid also has anticancer activity when it is used on cell lines derived from human colorectal carcinoma.
