It has been synthesized from 2-aminophenylboronic acid, which can be produced by the alkylation of phenol with 3-bromoquinoline. This compound has been shown to have antimalarial activity against the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum in vitro. (2-Aminophenyl)boronic acid hydrochloride has also been shown to have a high intestinal absorption rate when given orally to rats. In vivo studies are needed to determine whether this chemical is safe for humans.
